CHRO Connects: The Voting Rights Act

On October 29th, the CHRO attended Connecticut’s Old State House “Conversations at Noon – The Voting Rights Act: The Struggle Still Continues”. The engaging panel discussion facilitated by Diane Smith was enhanced by the presence and participation of Secretary of State, Denise Merrill, who readily answered questions about this month’s midterm elections. The panel included Dr. Close of Eastern CT State University, Val Ramos of Everyday Democracy and Dr. Kevin McMahon of Trinity College. Topics that surfaced during the discussion included the Voter ID Law, “pre-clearance”, voter fraud in CT, minority language voters, civics education and how to bring young voters to the polls.
