(HARTFORD, CT) – A public forum has been scheduled to deal with the allegations of discrimination brought to the attention of the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities against the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The public forum will be held on January 25, 2018 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Washington Middle School, 1225 Broad Street in Meriden.
At its October 2017 meeting, the Commission heard from the Connecticut Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) regarding several allegations of racial discrimination brought to them by current and former employees of DMHAS. The Commission voted in its November 8, 2017 meeting to hold a public forum on the issue.
The Commissioners will be conducting this January 25th public forum to allow DMHAS employees who have concerns or complaints regarding racial discrimination the chance to be heard. Officials from DMHAS will also be given the opportunity to speak.
